Arsenal icon Thierry Henry has been named the new Monaco manager after departing from his post as Belgium’s assistant coach, starting his managerial career where it all began.

Henry started his playing career at Monaco, where he was given his debut by a certain Arsene Wenger. After Leonardo Jardim’s sacking, the prodigal son was always a prime candidate.

Monaco currently find themselves languishing in the relegation zone of Ligue 1, a stark contrast to where they were two years ago as they were crowned champions.

Since then, however, they’ve simply been raided by all the clubs for their top players, many of whom were groomed at the club.

Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Fabinho and Thomas Lemar have all left in the last 18 months, which would be too much for any squad to handle.

Henry has always made it clear that he sees a future in management though many were critical of his reluctance to lose his lucrative job at Sky.

It was his role as a pundit that cost him his coaching position at Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger claiming the two roles were a direct conflict of interest.

In the summer, Henry quit Sky to let the world know where his heart his set – and boy do we hope he succeeds!
