Ivan Gazidis reflects on pre-season tour…
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has thanked the fans in Australia and China following our the culmination of our pre-season tour this summer.
We played four games in the countries, all coming with differing challenges as we look to get our players in the best possible shape ahead of the new season.
While racking up the miles may not be ideal for preparation, we’ve ended our tour earlier than most of our rivals ahead of the Emirates Cup on home soil.
Gazidis’ presence on the tour has been somewhat of a surprise, which has also resulted in most of our transfer business – in or out – becoming rather quiet.
Yes, it’s 2017 and business can be conducted thoroughly wherever we are in the world, but with us, it just hasn’t
We’ve been going on tour since 2012 and are yet to witness a deal successfully concluded while Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis have been away.
The main man on everyone’s lips at the moment is Thomas Lemar and one would hope that upon their back in England, the club can step up its pursuit to strengthen the squad.
One thing’s for sure, we certainly haven’t done enough in the market to give us the best chance to achieve the goals set after announcing Wenger’s contract extension – to win the league.
