Arsenal chiefs Sven Mislintat and Huss Fahmy have been promoted to executive roles following the departure of Ivan Gazidis which has required another shake-up, The Independent reports.

Gazidis’ sudden departure to AC Milan meant that instead of bringing in a new chief executive, the club decided to make some internal appointments and split the South African’s role in two.

Raul Sanllehi was promoted to head of football while Vinai Venkatesham heads up the commercial department, both were in similar roles but under Gazidis’ guidance.

So, with those two moving up, the club has promoted Mislintat and Fahmy to technical director and head of football relations respectively.

Fahmy was previously in a contract negotiator role and over the past year, his influence has been keenly felt in terms of recruitment and retention.

We’ve extended the contracts of the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alex Iwobi, Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and Reiss Nelson.

It’s been a rather exciting, yet unstable time at the club during the past 12 months which was further complicated by Gazidis’ departure.

He was the man who initiated the changes and as Vinai and Sanllehi have said, they were under the premise that the former MLS chief would be here for years to come.

That didn’t happen and while it wasn’t intended, Sanllehi has experience of being Barcelona’s director of football

Now, the stewardship of the club above Unai Emery is in the aforementioned duo’s hands – hopefully, they’re ready!
