Arsenal have entered a sponsorship deal with Italian coffee company Lavazza as the organisation enters the UK market, Goal’s Chris Wheatley reports.

We have long relied on ticket sales as our main revenue with many criticising the club’s inability to maximise commercial income outside of our main sponsorship deals.

The likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid have commercial partners in all sorts of sectors, and it’s those deals which accumulate and would allow a self-sufficient club such as ourselves to compete.

With Ivan Gazidis packing his bags as he heads to Italy, Vinai Venkatesham now becomes our chief commercial operator and he it seems he’s getting right to work.

This latest deal comes after an announcement of our £1m-per year partnership with Jay-Z owned streaming service TIDAL, while we’ve also capitalised on the Premier League’s allowance of sleeve sponsors, with Visit Rwanda becoming our partner in that field.

It’s interesting to see former winger Robert Pires head down to take the photo opportunity and one wonders if he’s been promoted to a more senior role.

Pires has remained an ambassador for the club in recent years despite his calls to receive a more prominent role.
