Arsenal legend Jens Lehmann believes Ivan Gazidis will not leave for AC Milan despite mass speculation claiming that he’s already agreed a deal with the Italian Giants, Sky Sports reports.
Gazidis who led a summer of change at the Emirates where we’ve seen somewhere in the region of 25 members of staff leave including legendary manager Arsene Wenger.
Unai Emery has come in with his entire backroom staff with Steve Bould the only remaining member of the previous regime. Also, we’ve seen the likes of Sven Mislintat, Raul Sanllehi and Huss Fahmy join as senior executives to aid Emery in all off-field matters.
It led us to believe that Gazidis was enjoying the freedom to exercise his power as chief executive following Wenger’s exit, but it seems he wants to jump ship.
For Lehmann, who was one of the many staff members let go by Gazidis, believes that this is a negotiation ploy from the South African and can’t understand why he’d want to leave for a project as difficult as Milan.
“Why would he go there?” Lehmann questioned when asked about Gazidis’ future on Sky Sports’ debate show.
“The Italian league isn’t as attractive, I think he doesn’t speak Italian. I don’t think he’s going out, he’s built a good club so why would he go?
“Now even CEOs use tactics to negotiate a better deal but I can’t see him walking out.”
If Gazidis was to make this bizarre move, I think it would be fair to say he’s proven everyone that accused him of being ‘a spineless coward who hid behind Wenger’ right.
