Arsenal legend Lee Dixon painfully admitted that Spurs have surpassed the Gunners in terms of their quality as a team after they grabbed an impressive draw away at Real Madrid on Tuesday night.
Last season represented the first Premier League campaign in which Spurs finished above us during Arsene Wenger’s tenure, leading to premature calls of a ‘power shift’ in north London.
While Dixon stopped short of making such a claim, he stated that it’s difficult making a case for Arsenal being the better football team at the moment, something many fans wouldn’t argue against.
While Spurs are competing at the Bernabeu, we’re getting ready for a Europa League clash at Red Star Belgrade.
“They’re a better side than Arsenal, yeah,” Dixon said on ITV Sport.
“Their all-round team, the way they set up, the different systems they can play, because they play three at the back, they play four…I think overall, they’re in better shape than Arsenal right now – which obviously pains me to say – but they are.”
It is the ‘in’ thing to claim Spurs are a better team than Arsenal at the moment, but if they fail to crown this period of north London dominance without lifting a single piece of silverware, was it worth it?
One League Cup win since 1999 shows how far Mauricio Pochettino’s men have to go before consolidating their place above us as a football club.
Check out Dixon’s comments below. Is he correct in his assessment?
