Martin Keown cannot believe the situation we’ve allowed to arise regarding Aaron Ramsey…
Arsenal legend Martin Keown has slammed the club’s decision to revoke Aaron Ramsey’s contract offer and allow him to walk on a free transfer after he delivered a solid display against Chelsea.
Ramsey has reportedly agreed a deal with Juventus which will see him join the Serie A giants for free in June, a move which further calls into question our handling of player contracts.
While other clubs recoup on assets who’re not of the value of Ramsey, we’ve allowed a number of players to waltz out of the club on a free due to poor decision-making regarding player contracts.
The 28-year-old is just another member of that select group which consists of Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla in recent years.
Ramsey was deployed at the tip of the diamond and executed his job well, nullifying Jorginho and proving to be the trigger to a number of our attacks.
For Keown, the Welshman’s display only exacerbates our issues.
“It’s the saddest thing of all really, how well he executed the plan today but in possession and out of possession,” the former Arsenal defender said on BT Sport.
“He’s obviously doing that to such an extent that [Mesut] Ozil can’t get near the team.
“But Ramsey’s not going to be part of their future and I find that sad.
“I find it a little bit sickening that he’s going to be leaving, they’re trying to make progress and one player who was singly so important won’t be a part of Arsenal’s future.”
Ramsey has contributed a considerable amount to the history of the club after scoring to match-winning goals in the FA Cup to solidify our status as the most decorated club in the competition’s history.
Allowing him to leave the club is the type of brave call we’ve wanted from a management team – now the scrutiny is on as they attempt to prove themselves right.
