Olivier Giroud was linked with Everton…

Arsenal star Olivier Giroud admitted that he was close to leaving north London last summer following the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette last summer.

Giroud didn’t get the chances he expected last season, only starting 11 Premier League games with Arsene Wenger favouring Alexis Sanchez as his central striker.

However, despite the clear opportunity to join Ronal Koeman at Everton, Giroud revealed that he had an honest discussion with those close to him about his Arsenal career.

The outcome? That his Arsenal story wasn’t yet finished.

“It is true that I was close to leaving the club because I wanted to play,” Giroud told the press.

“After big reflection with my family, my close friends, I decided to stay.

“I thought the story wasn’t finished at Arsenal.

“The club gave me a lot and I still want to win some more trophies with the club.”

Giroud is currently on 99 goals for Arsenal and could enter the illustrious ‘100 Club’ against FC Koln in our opening Europa League clash.

The Frenchman is yet to start for us this season, and this competition could be the perfect opportunity for him to show Arsene Wenger that he’s still his number one striker.
