Arsene Wenger ends Thomas Lemar chase…

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that our proposed move for Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar is dead with just week of the transfer window left to go.

Speaking to the press ahead of our Premier League clash at Liverpool, Wenger revealed that Lemar will not be sold this summer with Monaco closing the door on any more departures.

The Ligue 1 champions have sold Tiémoué Bakayoko, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva to Chelsea and Manchester City respectively, with players such as Kylian Mbappé and Fabinho heavily courted.

Wenger accepts that Monaco doesn’t want to sell, although he admitted that the latter duo may still depart this summer.

“It’s dead because Monaco have closed the door definitely,” Wenger said.

“They are still on cases like Mbappe and Fabinho. They’ve already lost Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Bakayoko, so Monaco is at a stage where they have closed the door. We have the numbers, we have the quality to deal with that.

“We have the numbers, we have the quality to deal with that.”

Monaco have shown that all their players have a price, although it would need an extortionate fee to even have the French side contemplate a sale.

We all know Wenger is reluctant to overpay for players, though his above statement will be put into sharper focus should Mbappe or Fabinho depart.
