Arsene Wenger has called on the January window to be scrapped, and also wants the summer window to end before the season starts.
Wenger experienced a turbulent summer transfer window, which ended on a hectic note as he attempted to bring in Thomas Lemar for €100 million to replace Alexis Sanchez – who was close to a £60m exit to Manchester City.
The Frenchman’s latest comments may be born out of a sense of premeditation for what’s to come January with reports suggesting that Man City will come back in for Alexis with an offer, despite being able to pick him up for free six months later.
Alexis will also not but cup-tied for the knockout stages of the Champions League, if Man City qualify for that stage of the tournament.
For Wenger, he feels certain players will be planning moves away in October with an eye on the January window, something he feels is a massive disadvantage.
“The players who do not play or the players who are tapped up in October they already start again to think: ‘Where do I go in January?'” Wenger told beIN SPORTS.
“That’s not a way to be on board with a football club.
“We are here to entertain people and you can do that with people who are really on board together, to achieve something together and not every minute that it doesn’t go well to think: ‘Where can I go next?'”
Wenger’s stance is understandable, but he’s one of a few managers at top clubs to use the January window over the past few years.
Is he being sincere with these comments, or does he fear what’s around the corner?
