Arsene Wenger has celebrated the conclusion of a nightmare week after an impressive win in Milan to set us up nicely for the second-leg next week.

Fresh off the back of four straight defeats in all competitions, the first time that’s happened under Arsene Wenger, all eyes were on our trip to Milan given the importance of the clash.

The Europa League will define this season: win it, and we’re back among Europe’s elite with a bigger transfer budget and a major trophy under our belts.

If we fail to go all the way, then it could be the catalyst for the biggest managerial change in football since Sir Alex’s shock retirement in 2013.

“It is an important win of course after we had a nightmare week,” Wenger told BT Sport.

“Overall it is important to win, but it is not qualification. We have to finish the job at home. I am happy with the spirit and response we gave.

“We were not in a position to take risks, but we could not be too cautious as you lose fluidity. We defended with resilience until the end.”

It will be interesting to see what Wenger does in terms of team selection against Watford with all our eggs in the Europa League basket.
