Arsene Wenger has stated that he’s the victim of age discrimination when questioned about how long he envisages himself remaining as Arsenal boss.
Wenger, who was fulfiling his contractual obligations with beIN Sports by giving them another exclusive interview during the international break, didn’t take kindly to the notion that winning the Europa League would be a perfect way to bow out.
The Frenchman is out of contract in 2019 but after a horrendous league campaign, many believe this summer is a perfect time to initiate change with the club restructuring the hierarchy above Wenger.
“You focus on doing well for your club and ignore all the rest,” Wenger told beIN Sports.
“Overall the older you get the more it becomes a little bit age discrimination.
“I can accept that if the results are not good enough… but overall that perpetual thing of a link with how long you’ve been at the club, how old you are, I find that a bit difficult to take.”
Wenger’s sentiment here is bizarre, it’s as if he sees no correlation between such theories and his performance as Arsenal manager.
Also, his contract in just under 12 months and one would imagine that he’d advocate for more clarity and not to experience the speculation which hindered us last season.
