Arsene Wenger has moved to assure the public that nothing has changed in terms of the power structure at Arsenal regardless of the arrival of senior figures such as Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi.

The club produced official announcements to mark the arrival of the aforementioned duo, handing them important titles such as ‘head of recruitment’ and ‘head of football relations’ – respectively.

It signified the beginning of the ‘catalyst for change’ era Ivan Gazidis infamously referred to last spring in the midst of our worst run of form under Wenger.

The boss ended up signing a contract extension, though many had the idea that the club wasn’t prepared for his exit given the number of roles Wenger holds.

We saw the new backroom team work extensively and efficiently during the January window, signing three first-team players and selling five – business reminiscent of a summer window.

However, for Wenger, he’s still the boss. The Frenchman has previously ridiculed the job titles held by senior officials at other clubs, leading to suggestions that there may be a rift should Gazidis act upon his promise.

“Nothing changes,” Wenger said bluntly after being asked about the new recruits by BT Sport’s Jake Humphrey.

“At the end, I make the decisions and as long as I’m here it will be like that.

“That’s the job of the manager, and that’s the basis of my contract.”

Interesting. Interesting indeed.
