Arsene Wenger ideally aiming to keep Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil until June…

As the January transfer window approaches, Arsene Wenger was once again asked if Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil would remain Arsenal players for the remainder of the season, and the boss couldn’t give a categorical answer.

Ozil and Alexis have so far refused to sign extensions on their contracts with only months left to run, and it the general consensus is that we’re witnessing their final days as Arsenal players.

Alexis was moments away from leaving last summer after the club accepted a £60million bid from Manchester City despite claiming that he wasn’t for sale prior to deadline day.

The January window represents the final opportunity for the club to recoup some funds on the duo, and Wenger hinted that he may have to listen to certain offers.

“I can tell you a global answer — yes. They will all stay,” Wenger told reporters ahead of the visit of Newcastle United on Saturday.

“I will analyse every case individually and separately, but overall I would say my wish and my desire is that everybody stays.

“After, if you come in and you tell me: ‘look that’s what I offer you for this player’, I will say yes or no.”

It’s clear that Wenger hasn’t shut the door on a potential exit though it seems that Alexis is closer to leaving than Ozil.

The latter has repeatedly claimed that he’s happy in London and at Arsenal, which gives the impression that the two parties can’t come to some sort of financial agreement.

Also, with Germany qualified for the World Cup, Ozil will almost certainly want a settled season in preparation for the tournament in Russia.

Alexis doesn’t have such worries and given his current form, the sooner he exits the club the better.
