Arsene Wenger: We Have Spent “Good Money” This Summer

Arsene Wenger addresses our preparations for the new season…

Arsene Wenger has described the club’s transfer activity as spending “good money” with Alexandre Lacazette the only signing we’ve paid a transfer fee for this summer.

While the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have all spent well over £100million to reinforce their squads for a title push, Wenger has adopted a more prudent method.

Despite promises from the club that we’ve acknowledged where we’ve gone wrong and that things would be addressed, very little seems to have changed in terms of policy on and off the pitch.

We’ve seen a move for Thomas Lemar lose steam, while a number of our first-team players remain uncertain in terms of their future.

However, Wenger is adamant that we’re equipped to challenge for the league, despite acknowledging the powerful spending from our rivals.

“There are so many teams who can win the championship,” Wenger said.

“Some clubs have very, very busy transfer markets, you don’t know how good they will be.

“Overall we are equipped number-wise, we are equipped spirit-wise, and what we have to show is that we can be efficient through the whole season.

“We’ve spent good money but it was not out of control on the transfer side.”

For a team that finished fifth last season, if Wenger feels a left-back and a centre-forward is what was missing to bridge the 18-point gap between us and Chelsea, then that’s his prerogative.

What makes it frustrating for us fans is when his outrageous calls are not met with any accountability.
