Vincent Kompany waxes lyrical on his former coach…
Burnley manager Vincent Kompany revealed that those who knew Mikel Arteta never doubted his ability as manager and foresaw his current rise, the Belgian told the press.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match as Kompany looks to secure crucial points following a run of four Premier League defeats on the spin, the former Manchester City captain waxed lyrical on his former coach.
Arteta and Kompany spent three-and-a-half years together at the Etihad Stadium and the former defender isn’t surprised with how the Spaniard has been working.
After a rocky few months in his first full season as Gunners boss, Arteta has led an Arsenal revival which has seen us progress steadily each year.
We’re now one of the favourites for lifting both the Premier League and the Champions League this season, illustrating that external figures mirror Kompany’s feelings towards Arteta’s Arsenal.
“They are a team that is well coached and who belong where they are at the moment, at the top of English football,” Kompany said in his pre-match press conference.
“What he’s done at Arsenal is completely in line with his personality. He started with some tough challenges, but he managed to rally the club behind him, and they’ve built a team that is one of the best in the league.
“Nobody doubted that he would be a good manager,” Arteta continued.
“Arsenal are a very robust squad in every way: strong physically, good technically and speed in the right areas.”
It does seem like Arteta is constantly coming up against dear friends of his, following the matches against Adoni Iraola’s Bournemouth, Pep Guardiola’s Man City and Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.
One suspects that the Spaniard will drill home the importance of getting back on track in the Premier League following last weekend’s controversial loss.
