Former Arsenal forward Serge Gnabry has named Mesut Ozil as the best player he’s played alongside as the German star prepares to take on Liverpool in the Champions League, Goal reports.

Gnabry has developed into one of the most explosive forwards in Europe since departing the club on a free transfer in 2016, realising the potential many saw as he rose through our ranks.

The 23-year-old made an impression as he made the step-up ahead of the 2013/14 campaign as a teenager and was used frequently in the Premier League by Arsene Wenger.

However, fitness issues continued to hamper his development and despite sending him on loan to West Brom in the hope of regaining his form, that move further alienated the German starlet.

“I’ve already played with many good guys. But, if I have to highlight one, I take Mesut Ozil,” Gnabry said.

“The kind of quality I have seen in his training and in the games at that time was amazing.”

Gnabry and Ozil were inseparable during their time together at Arsenal though it’s rather impressive that the former Gunner rates his compatriot so highly.

Given that Gnbary is currently playing alongside the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Arjen Robben and Thiago Alcantara, choosing Ozil is quite the statement.

In addition, Gnabry also reserved special praise for skipper Laurent Koscielny and named him as the most difficult defender he’s ever come across.

“He was always there, a really aggressive defender,” Gnabry said.

“He was also good on the ball. When you passed him, he always came back anyway.

“I had the toughest duels against him.”
