Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has dampened hopes of talks reopening regarding Aaron Ramsey’s contracts after the midfielder made a significant impact in the north London derby, Goal reports.

Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette were sent on at half-time by Emery to rescue the game as we trailed our rivals 2-1, despite dominating large spells of the first half.

Lacazette joined Aubameyang up front, while Ramsey played in the pocket in behind as Emery switched to a 5-3-2 system to counter Mauricio Pochettino’s diamond system in midfield.

Ramsey immediately rocked Spurs, continuously running beyond their midfield and occupying the space between the two centre-backs who were more focused on our dynamic forwards.

The 27-year-old set-up Aubameyang for his sensational equaliser, and harassed Juan Foyth into an error to lay on the third for Lacazette.

However, Emery wasn’t to be drawn on whether this shifts the club’s stance on the Welshman’s contract.

“Two months ago we spoke together, both for his moment, his present and future. I think it was a very good conversation,” Emery told reporters.

“I said to you also here in the press conference that I want his focus only on the team, on giving us his performances.

“His present is as I want, and his future is very important for him and his family.”

“This conversation is not for today, for us or for me. It’s one situation that was closed one or two months ago,” Emery concluded.

While they refused to discuss individual cases, Raul Sanllehi and those now calling the shots have made it clear hat no decision has been taken without deep thought.

Retracting a contract offer from a player who’s considered a modern-day club legend isn’t done without bravery and assurance.
