UEFA have confirmed that they will not be taking action against Danny Welbeck for his dive against AC Milan in the second-leg of our Europa League tie, according to Sky Sports.

Welbeck took a tumble against the visitors and dispatched the resulting penalty to restore our comfortable lead and halt an unlikely fightback from Genaro Gattuso’s side.

Ricardo Rodriguez seemed to place his hand on Welbeck’s shoulder for a moment, and the England man saw it has a perfect opportunity to win us a penalty.

It was a dive, though it was a surprise that the spot-kick was given by the fifth official standing behind the goal given that he had the best view of anyone inside the stadium.

While Welbeck’s dive was rather embarrassing as an Arsenal fan, it comes as no surprise that UEFA have decided against taking retrospective action.

It’s not in their nature to do such a thing, with the only memorable action coming against us for Eduardo’s supposed dive against Celtic in 2008.

Arsene Wenger came out fighting once the Croatian was charged, claiming that UEFA had now set a dangerous precedent and challenged them to act on a list of incidents that took place that week.

After an appeal, UEFA dropped their case against our former striker and they clearly do not want that headache again.
