Emile Smith Rowe was left in awe by Santi Cazorla…
Arsenal forward Emile Smith Rowe named former Gunners favourite Santi Cazorla as the best player he’s trained with, the 21-year-old told Elevate Football.
Smith Rowe and the legendary Spanish midfielder never took to the field together with Cazorla injured with a serious achilles injury for the final 18-months of his career.
However, during the final months of the 2017/18 season, the final one of Arsene Wenger and Cazorla’s time at London Colney, the Spaniard did resume full training and one would imagine that’s when Smith Rowe witnessed what has left him in awe until this day.
Asked about the first time he was invited to train with the first team, Smith Rowe began to reminisce.
“He (Santi) was the best player I’ve ever trained with, I swear,” the Arsenal starlet marvelled.
“What he was doing in training was silly. And for me, I’m so young, my first training session and he’s just dribbling through everyone.
“I don’t know what foot he is, he takes corners with both feet.
“He’s special.”
Cazorla was certainly a generational talent, one who defied the laws of physics and what many felt traditional central midfielder should look like.
His later years at the club were some of his most glorious when Wenger dropped him back into a deep midfield position.
Our current team could certainly do with a player of Cazorla’s qualities. But then again, who wouldn’t benefit from such a player.
