Emile Smith Rowe is back in training after an injury scare…

Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe has resumed training for England and is in contention to feature in their friendly against Ivory Coast at Wembley.

Smith Rowe missed a few training sessions last week with a niggle that was described as “nothing too serious” by manager Gareth Southgate.

The 21-year-old has endured a stuttering start to 2022 due to various niggles and illness, so seeing him back on the training pitch is certainly a boost.

How fit he is will determine the extent to which he’ll be involved in the clash on Tuesday, though getting some minutes under his belts can certainly do him no harm.

With Bukayo Saka withdrawing from the squad after testing positive for Covid-19 and several attacking players featuring against Switzerland, one wouldn’t be surprised if Smith Rowe started the game.

The opportunities to impress between now and when Southgate announces the squad for Qatar 2022 are minimal, so Smith Rowe will certainly hope to produce a performance against Nicolas Pepe and co.
