Former Arsenal defender Kolo Toure has reassured fans that Arsene Wenger only wants what’s best for the club and has backed his former coach to turn things around.
Wenger is under intense pressure following a horrendous start to the new season, losing two out of our first three games, conceding nine goals.
The boss’ current plight has been exacerbated by the fact that he extended his contract in May in the midst of mass disapproval from the fans after finishing outside the top four.
Despite noises from within the club that we’d see changes this summer, we have once again failed to address the deficiencies in the squad while a number of players have looked for the exit.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the single major departure, but the commitment levels of many first-team members will be under the microscope when the Premier League returns.
“He wants the best for the club, that’s all I know,” Toure told reporters.
“It’s a tough situation because Arsenal hasn’t won the league for a long time now, even though they’ve won the FA Cup a few times.
“There’s a lot of pressure on Mr Wenger but, the thing is, Mr Wenger loves Arsenal. He’s done amazing for the club. He’s working with his heart.
“He’s been there so long and, for me, when I was there, we worked very well and won the league. That was the best time. Right now it’s tough but Mr Wenger is a fighter.”
