Bacary Sagna wasn’t comfortable with the early dismissal of Arsene Wenger…
Former Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna believes that Arsene Wenger deserved to go on as long as he wanted to, given all he’s done for the club, the Frenchman told Sky Sports.
Sagna, who’s currently plying his trade in the MLS with Monreal Impact, admitted that it looks like Unai Emery has galvanised the squad this season following a season of malaise.
Wenger decided to extend his contract at the end of the 16/17 season despite finishing outside the top four, it was a decision which would suck the soul out of the club.
The next campaign would go on to be our worst under his tutelage, finishing with our lowest points tally and winning just three games away from home all season.
Apathy spread through the club instead of anger, and it seemed everyone at the club accepted that a change was needed – even though he had 12 months to go.
Though he wants Arsenal to succeed, Sagna doesn’t like the way it ended under Wenger.
“It is strange. From one year to another, it is totally crazy,” Sagna said regarding the managerial change.
“They enjoyed the summer to clear their minds and come back stronger.
“It seems like they give even more on the pitch and it is working for them. I am so happy to see the club back to its best. Arsenal is in my heart, it is my club.”
When asked if Wenger, perhaps, overstayed his welcome, Sagna said: “No. To me, he deserved to stay longer.
“He gave his life for the club. It can’t always be perfect and people were a bit harsh with him. Arsenal became Arsenal because of him. He was the man.”

"I was sad to see them struggling for the past few years but they are back to their best"
Bacary Sagna has been impressed with Unai Emery's start to life at Arsenal but refuses to blame Arsene Wenger for their decline.
