Ex-Liverpool man Steve Nicol is upset about Arsenal again…
Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol lambasted the Arsenal players for allowing Kai Havertz to take the penalty to open his Gunners account, ESPN reports.
After being 2-0 up at the Vitality Stadium, we were awarded our second spot-kick of the afternoon following a clear foul on skipper Martin Odegaard.
Having already tucked away the earlier penalty, Odegaard and Bukayo Saka decided to hand over the responsibility this time to Havertz and afford him the opportunity to get off the mark in Arsenal career.
Havertz, a penalty specialist, tucked the ball away rather calmly after watching Neto dive to the opposite side and his goal was met with euphoria in the away stand.
It was a clear relief for a player under intense scrutiny since his move from Chelsea over the summer, and the German international was swarmed by his teammates.
“If Arsenal’s life depends on it, Saka takes it or Odegaard takes it. Havertz doesn’t take it. So at 2-0 the game’s not over. It’s a lack of professionalism,” Nicol complained.
“What happens if he misses it and Bournemouth get two late goals? That’s not what you do. If you’re the coach of a team and allow that things like that to happen, then it spreads into other things. You have to be precise. And orders are orders.”
Nicol has become so intent on being the character he’s created for himself on that ESPN platform that he’s now fabricating hypothetical scenarios to become angry about.
Havertz didn’t miss, he scored. He’s happy, the fans are happy and Arsenal secured three valuable points.
