Arsenal are set to land some of their prime targets as deals for Dani Ceballos and William Saliba near completion with almost a fortnight left until the window slams shut, BBC Sport’s David Ornstein reports.

Ceballos will arrive on a season-long loan without an option to buy, while it seems we’ve beaten off competition to land French starlet Saliba.

Saliba will be loaned back to St Etienne immediately which begs the question as to whether or not the club believes we need a central defender for next season.

That area was our main weakness last term and with our skipper and best defender Laurent Koscielny refusing to play, it’s a position that desperately needs attention.

In Ceballos, we have a very talented midfielder to help us fill Aaron Ramsey’s void for the next 12 months, although the absence of an option-to-buy clause seems disappointing.

If the 22-year-old has a very season and Real Madrid are open to selling him permanently, we may have single-handedly made him too expensive for us.

Having said that, when the club is briefing any journalist that will listen that we don’t have any money to spend, a suppose a loan signing for a problem position could prove to be a shrewd move.

We’re still linked with moves for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha and Scottish left-back Kieran Tierney and it remains to be seen if those can be dragged over the line.

If we don’t land those names, one hopes the club has a list of back-up plans to plug those problem positions.

We have been quiet all summer and it’s no surprise to see us rushing to complete business with the window shutting in just over a fortnight.
