Reiss Nelson has a lot of respect for former Gunner Jack Wilshere…

Arsenal starlet Reiss Nelson named Jack Wilshere as the best player he’s played alongside and spoke of his frustration that we rarely saw a fully-fit Wilshere at the club, the winger told ProDirect Soccer.

Nelson was speaking at the club’s shirt launch festivities and after questions were taken from the floor, one fan wanted to know who the 20-year-old felt was the best he’s shared a dressing room with.

Due to Wilshere’s injury record and Nelson’s tender age, the two very rarely shared time on the pitch together in the first team. However, when the playmaker was often making his return from the various injuries he suffered, the two lined up alongside each other for the U23s.

Nelson has returned to the squad this summer following a season in Germany with Hoffenheim which was rather indifferent on the whole.

The academy graduate started in blistering form, netting six times in eight Bundesliga appearances. However, a loss of form and some disciplinary issues meant that Nelson didn’t find the net again until April.

He’s back to stake a claim in Unai Emery’s side and he could use some of Wilshere’s willpower to do it.

“For me, the best player I’ve played with and trained with is Jack Wilshere,” Nelson said, unquestionably.

“I promise you guys – you might have seen him in games where he was half fit or a bit of niggles, but when this guy is in full motion, the way he touches the ball and passes it is crazy.”

It’s not hard to see why players admire Wilshere’s quality given how comfortable he always looked with the ball at his feet. Despite being an Arsenal man through-and-through, letting him go last summer when his contract expired has since looked like the right choice given his injury-ravaged campaign with West Ham.

Nevertheless, we continue to wish Wilshere the best.
