Arsenal star Henrikh Mkhitaryan revealed that he wasn’t completely sure Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was joining the club when he made the “Yo Pierre” welcome video.

Speaking to fans through an AMA session on Reddit, the Armenian was asked about the video which initially sent tongues wagging when it was leaked by the club’s Twitter admin.

Mkhitaryan joined the club 12 months ago in the winter window with Alexis Sanchez joining Manchester United, and there was talk that he would soon be joined by a former Borussia Dortmund teammate.

Ivan Gazidis and other executives were in negotiations to sign Aubameyang for a record fee and while the move was far from completed when the playmaker joined, fans saw a glimpse of him welcoming the Gabon star with a “Yo Pierre” reference – a homage to Playboi Carti’s hit song.

Mkhitaryan revealed to fans that he wasn’t 100% sure the lethal forward was joining the club but was informed that there was a good chance of his imminent arrival and that the video made sense.

“When I did the video, it was not still 100 per cent that he was going to come to Arsenal, but in case he did come we just wanted to make the video earlier,” Mkhitaryan told fans.

“I agreed and I was happy for that because when I heard that he was gonna come I was just like ‘hey, Yo Pierre! You wanna come out here?”

The two stars have endured contrasting experiences over the past 12 months with Mkhitaryan still struggling to convince fans that he can regain the form he showed in Germany.

On the other hand, Aubameyang has hit the ground running and since joining the club just over a year ago, only Mo Salah has scored more Premier League goals than him.
