Arsenal playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan believes that the mistakes currently visible in our set-up were inevitable given the change in style under Unai Emery.

The Spanish coach wants the team to build from the back and create overloads in each area of the pitch, emphasising on the need for “control” throughout the match.

We saw that work in all it’s glory for our second goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, a goal which started at the feet of Petr Cech and ended up with Alex Iwobi smashing the ball forward – the ball didn’t leave the ground once.

However, our work off the ball needs attention and our dangerous high-line was often exposed by Chelsea, especially from their first two goals.

For the 30-year-old, though, mistakes were always expected and are welcomed for the squad to further improve.

“There is no success without making mistakes,” Mkhitaryan told Arsenal Player.

“Obviously we have to play and we have to try. If we try, we can do whatever we plan to do. If we don’t try, then we’re not going to play football.

“That’s why we had lots of mistakes because we’re trying. I’m pretty sure that in the next games we’ll have better results and play better football.”

Our run of league fixtures for the next eight games looks rather favourable given that we’ve just faced two top-six rivals in the opening two matchdays.

While results are required, it’s also a perfect opportunity for the squad to master the philosophy in games we’re very much expected to win.
