Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has announced that he’ll retire from football at the end of the season after exactly 20 years has a professional footballer.
The 37-year-old made the announcement via his social media accounts and is set to draw a sensational career to a close in which he won every trophy available to him at club level.
Cech will undoubtedly be remembered for his time at Chelsea after spending 11-years in west London, winning every medal possible.
His move to us in 2015 was supposed to signal our rise to genuine title-challengers given his ability to win points throughout a campaign.
While we secured our highest Premier League finish since 2015 in his first season at the club, we lost the Premier League title to Leicester City.
That being said, Cech did add another FA Cup to his sensational trophy collection after lifting the trophy with us in 2017, beating his former side in the final.
We didn’t get to see the best of the Czech icon at Arsenal, but we certainly witness his greatness rather vividly as he dominated the Premier League last decade.
Hopefully, Cech is offered some type of role at the club given his array of expertise. Read his statement via his Twitter account below:
“This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire.
“Having played 15 years in the Premier League and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve.
“I will continue to work hard at Arsenal to hopefully win one more trophy this season.
“I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch.”
