Arsenal hero Ian Wright admitted that he was “gutted” many are now talking about us as title challengers as he’d hoped we’d be able to go about our business quietly, he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Following our 5-1 win at Fulham which represented our sixth league win in succession and ninth in all competitions, many are wondering if Unai Emery is springing a surprising tilt at the title.

We’re currently two points off the top of the table though many didn’t give us a chance of challenging the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool this season.

Indeed, after two seasons outside of the competition, I would imagine the remit for Unai Emery was for him to get us back in the Champions League.

And, for Wrighy, he wishes we were just ignored and allowed to blossom under the radar with Emery at the helm – sadly, that’s no longer the case.

“Of course, winning nine on the spin, I’m very excited about that,” he said.

“Like Rory (Smith Times) was saying, ‘the worst thing that can happen is we are talking about them’ – I’m gutted we’re talking about them because I just wanted us to continue to go under the radar.”

Our run of fixtures after the toughest of starts were always favourable on paper, though winning those games is a different story.

If we manage to win the remainder of our league fixtures before hosting Liverpool then we’ll be stood in good stead for a top-four race.
