Arsenal playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been ruled out for six weeks after suffering a fractured metatarsal during our Carabao Cup exit against Spurs last week, the club has confirmed.

Mkhitaryan didn’t feature against Burnley with the club refraining from revealing the extent of the injury and it’s now been revealed that we’ll be without him until February.

Unai Emery withdrew the Armenian at half-time in the League Cup clash and due to the manager’s tendency to make changes at the break, we didn’t think anything of it.

The incident may have occurred during one of our attacks when Mkhitaryan was running onto a loose ball in an attempt to volley it, but Lucas Moura nicked in ahead of him and the 30-year-old ended him kicking the Brazilian’s boot.

He seemed uneasy following that clash and his withdrawal was a slight blow given how he started the game with his ability to carry the ball.

The injury comes in the midst of a slight crisis for the boss, with many defenders on the treatment table including Nacho Monreal, Hector Bellerin, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding.

Holding is out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury and is joined by Danny Welbeck as our long-term absentees.

It means we’re seriously lacking in options in the forward areas and in defence, and the club’s hierarchy must act in the upcoming window to give us the best chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
