Arsenal head coach Unai Emery stated that he will not refrain from playing Lucas Torreira against Brighton on Boxing Day despite the fact that the Uruguayan is close to reaching his yellow card threshold.

If Torreira receives a yellow card against Chris Hughton’s men, he will serve a one-match suspension against Liverpool which doesn’t bear thinking about.

The 22-year-old has been a revelation for us since arriving from Sampdoria in the summer and his tenacity in midfield is something we’ve lacked over the years.

Avoiding a yellow against Brighton will see Torreira and all the other players in the league’s slate wiped clean, and many are anxious about his involvement.

However, for Emery, he wants Torreira to play and to play freely without holding back in terms of his combativeness.

“I don’t know if Torreira can even play cautiously, but I don’t want him to think about the possibility of a suspension against Liverpool for one yellow card,” Emery told Arsenal Player.

“I don’t want him to think about that.

“We are going to play [with] full [commitment]…the same three points are in Brighton that are in Liverpool,” Emery added to hammer home how he views the clash on the seaside.

I’m with Emery on this one, we cannot afford to overlook the three points at stake on Boxing day. Liverpool is a big game, but it’s only three points, and we need those points in every league game.
