Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis promises new signings…
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis told fans at the annual supporters’ event that our new hierarchy are still looking to add to the squad in the transfer market, the Daily Star reports.
Unai Emery has since his squad enhanced by two new arrivals, defender Stephan Lichsteiner and Goalkeeper Bernd Leno have joined from Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.
Also, it is expected that the arrival of Sokratis Papastathapolous in the coming days as Borussia Dortmund wait for their new financial year on July 1st.
Speaking at his annual general meeting with the Arsenal Supporter’s Trust – which was rather delayed this year given all the changes taking place at the club – Gazidis invited Emery onto the stage and confirmed we’re not done yet in the window.
“We have brought in a new head of recruitment in Sven Mislintat,” Gazidis said at a fans’ Q&A at Emirates Stadium.
“And alongside him is Huss Fahmy who has been involved with negotiating a lot of our player contracts and also we have Raul Sanllehi who joins us from Barcelona.
“So we really have a collective effort now, in terms of how we identify players and then how we take forward our interest and of course Unai is a huge part of that as well.
“Unai has been in the thick of that process in terms of what we need in the squad, we’ve signed two new players so far this summer and there will be more to come,” Gazidis added.
The talk is that Sokratis and Lucas Torreira will be next, though it will be interesting to see if we do business beyond that given constant talk of a restricted budget.
