Jamie Carragher “Loved” Arteta’s Post-Match Rant, ‘Fighting For His Club’

Jamie Carragher understands Arteta’s post-match feelings…

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher stated that he “loved” Mikel Arteta’s post-match comments after the Spaniard call out the PGMOL following our defeat to Newcastle United, Sky Sports reports.

Arteta labelled the decision to award Newcastle United their winner as “embarrassing” and a “disgrace” and called on a reform of officiating in this league.

Anthony Gordon tapped home the winner, though the former Everton man was standing in an offside position given that he was behind the goalkeeper.

That action followed two other infringements that should’ve seen the goal ruled out with Joelinton’s blatant shove on Gabriel after Joe Willock looked like he failed to keep the ball in play.

Arteta made it clear that his grievances aren’t solely centred around what took place at St James’s Park, and called on the PGMOL to address the standard of officiating to match the quality of the Premier League.

“I loved it,” the former Liverpool man said.

“I love the interview, the passion and that’s what the game does to you.

“The margins now at the top end of the Premier League when you’re up against the best team in the world Manchester City and that’s what they’ve got to do this season, win the league.

“They came close last season. And that’s a manager who’s not only just frustrated with what he’s seen tonight in terms of the decisions, I think it’s a manager who knows you can’t give that team an inch. So it’s also that at the back of his head as well.

“People may look at that and think ‘what part of VAR is he questioning?’ I think it’s the ball out of play when you talk about the image.

“But they’re the interviews you want to see. I think Arsenal fans will love that interview. And I would love that if I was my manager showing that type of passion,” Carragher concluded.

Carragher, as an Arsenal fan, my first thoughts were; ‘about time!’

Arteta has often chosen his words carefully when speaking on officials, and his response to last season’s disgraceful debacle regarding Brentford’s equaliser at the Emirates Stadium was rather lukewarm.
