Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney preaching caution as the race for the top four heats up…

Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney has warned that there remains a long way to go before we can call ourselves a Champions League club again as the top-four ace heats up, he told The Evening Standard.

Tierney was among the scorers in our 5-0 rout at Carrow Road as we blitz a struggling Norwich side to consolidate our place in the top-four.

A run of four consecutive wins in the league makes our position in the table positive viewing, with the team responding emphatically to those damaging defeats at Old Trafford and Goodison Park earlier this month.

Getting back into European football was always the aim for this term, but few believed we could land a place in the top four and return to the Champions League for the first time since 2016.

Tierney believes that while that’s the goal of everyone at the club, the squad is remaining focused on the tasks ahead.

“It’s obviously what every Arsenal fan, player and staff wants, but there is a long way to go,” the Scotsman was quoted a saying.

“We can’t get too ahead of ourselves yet. Big games are coming up and there are a lot of games coming, so there’s still a long way.

“We are getting a run together. We are happy, we are playing well and we are scoring goals. We are getting there. It was good [today],” he added.

The former Celtic man has returned to the side with a bit of a chip on his shoulder after briefly losing his starting berth to Nuno Tavares.

Tierney seems to have added a number of qualities to his game and is now often providing an underlapping option for winger Gabriel Martinelli.

His relationship with the Brazilian down the left-flank will be crucial to our attacking potency and, in turn, improve our chances of finishing in the top four.

Also, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s long-term future at the club looking very bleak, there is a space for a permanent club captain and the 24-year-old seems primed for that role.
