Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny suffered one of football’s most painful and dangerous injuries in May after snapping his achilles in our semi-final Europa League clash at Atletico Madrid.

The Frenchman had been feeling discomfort in the achilles for years and had been managing it well, with rests and yoga allowing him to play through the pain.

It seems the club were reluctant to suggest surgery and felt Koscielny could continue competing at the highest level without significantly damaging that area of his foot.

However, minutes into the game in Spain, the 33-year-old was attempting to push the defensive line up and he buckled underneath his ankle and was in instant agony.

It quickly became apparent what had happened, though the recant from Koscielny and club doctor Gary O’Driscoll was enlighting and equally bone-chilling.

O’Driscoll revealed that Koscielny was adamant that Diego Costa had done something to him given their history and the close proximity of the former Chelsea man.

The club doctor had to reassure the Gunners skipper that wasn’t the case and aimed to get him in the dressing room as quickly as possible.

Another revelation from the medical was staff was that France forward Antoine Griezmann visited Koscielny at half-time to offer his condolences – many knew this injury meant he’d miss out on the World Cup, the final one of his career.

It’s an emotional watch. Check it out in the video below.
