Arsene Wenger responded to fans’ chants of ‘Wenger Out’ by claiming that “he’s sorry” if he’s the problem behind our recent plight, a rather bizarre admission.
Wenger chose to extend his contract in May despite a horrendous second-half of a league campaign and amidst massive calls for him to walk.
Winning the FA Cup against Chelsea offered him a chance to go out on a high, but Wenger has risked turning the atmosphere around the club toxic once again.
A poor transfer market has ensued and with doubts surrounding the futures of some key players, predictable problems have arisen on and off the pitch.
When notified of fans’ chants, Wenger seemed to accept that he may be the issue, before calling on fans to remember that the team wins and loses together.
“We I don’t want to answer that that is part of the crowds feeling of some people,” Wenger told Sky Sports.
“If I am the problem then I am the problem. I am sorry that I am the problem.
“I believe we should all be together when we lose and we want our fans to be together when we lose, even in a performance like that.
“The only thing we can do is come back and give them a better level of performance.”
If Wenger understands he’s the problem, why did he sign on?
