Arsene Wenger has made it clear that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will remain Arsenal players, at least until the end of their contracts in June.
Both stars are so far yet to commit their long-term futures to the club, and it seems talks are completely off with no reports indicating that an agreement is close.
Wenger made it clear throughout last summer that he had every intention of keeping both players until the end of their contracts, yet accepted an offer from Manchester City on deadline day.
The January window represents the final chance to cash in on Ozil and Alexis before we see them walk out of the club for free, and we’ve seen Wenger completely renege on his previous stances.
However, on this occasion, Wenger is remaining steadfast.
“I rule it out,” Wenger said when he was asked if Ozil and Alexis could potentially be sold in January.
“In my head, they stay until the end of the season. Unless something unbelievable happens, I can’t see why that would change.
“Will they stay longer? That’s impossible to answer today. I am not the only one who can decide that. They have a part to play in that as well. If it’s my decision, yes.”
At this point, this will become a financial decision for the club.
If they feel that they can recoup the money we’d receive for Alexis and Ozil by qualifying for the Champions League, then it’s smarter to keep them.
Also, with our main two sponsorship deals up for renewal shortly, we need to be at Europe’s top table to strengthen our hand.
