Mesut Ozil was visibly happy to currently be above Spurs…

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil admitted that it’s always nice to leapfrog Spurs in the table after our 2-0 win against Newcastle United saw us climb into third place.

It’s the first time we’ve been that high in the table for two years and after a difficult few months during the winter period, four wins from our last five has put us back on track.

Unai Emery has repeatedly stressed that finishing inside the top four is this season’s primary target and given the lack of quality throughout our squad compared to our rivals, he’s certainly overachieving at the moment.

Ozil has seen himself back in-favour with the manager following a period of exile, and the German produced yet another assured display which earned him the man of the match gong.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Ozil couldn’t hide his satisfaction that we’re now above Spurs in the table.

“Our aim is to get into the top four. Of course, we’re happy that we’re in front of Tottenham,” Ozil said.

“It’s always a big competition with them. If we play like today, we have a few more games in front of us and we want to win them. We want to take all the points to get into the top four at the end of the season.”

As many have pointed out, our away form will determine whether or not we can finish in the top four with five of our remaining games taking place on the road.

We’ve been poor away from home this season but our last Premier League trip should give the players encouragement as we dominated Spurs at Wembley.

It’s in our hands and that’s all we could ask for!
