Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil could be shown the door in January as Unai Emery loses patience with the 30-year-old which culminated in his absence from the squad for the derby, Daily Mail reports.

Emery left Ozil out of the squad which crashed out of the Carabao Cup following a 2-0 lost to our fierce rivals and cited ‘tactical reasons’ as the reason behind his decision.

Invariably, Emery felt Ozil couldn’t contribute to the team in no way, shape or form which beggars belief considering his stature in world football.

The World Cup winner is the highest paid player at the club and the second-highest in the entire Premier League, and it seems he’s now becoming an issue for the boss.

Emery often publicly challenged Ozil to work tirelessly for the team out of possession, especially when we’re quickly transitioning from attack to defence and aiming to win the ball back quickly.

The head coach hasn’t seen what he’s wanted from Ozil and he’s been in and out of the team in recent weeks. A back injury kept him out of the squad for the Premier League clashes against Spurs, Manchester United and Huddersfield.

This came after he was left on the bench for the entire game at Bournemouth last month, which led many to question the timing of this injury.

At this moment in time, it seems Emery isn’t bothered to mask Ozil’s absence and has made it clear he doesn’t tactically fit into his team.

It should mean that Ozil’s days are numbered, there’s no way we can afford to keep a player on £350K per week when he isn’t deemed good enough for an 18-team squad.

January looks set to be an interesting month in terms of outgoings and incomings.
