Mikel Arteta defeats The FA…
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been cleared of all charges by an independent Regulatory Commission after the FA charged the Spaniard last month for comments he made following our controversial defeat against Newcastle United, The FA confirmed.
Arteta was charged by The FA as they deemed his post-match comments to be ‘insulting towards match officials and/or detrimental to the game and/or brought the game into disrepute.’
The boss labelled the decision to award Anthony Gordon’s winner a “disgrace” after three separate infringements leading up to the goal weren’t overturned by VAR.
After constant dialogue for over a month, a hearing was held at Wembley Stadium last week as club chief Richard Garlick and Arsenal’s legal counsel argued Arteta’s case.
While The FA claimed that Arteta passed the threshold for their charges due to his ‘status’ within the game as opposed to other managers, the independent panel didn’t agree.
It was ruled that his post-match interviews last month didn’t bring the game into disrepute and weren’t insulting, with the 41-year-old well within his rights to assess the referee’s performance.
The longer the process dragged on the more fans feared that Arteta was set to receive a harsh punishment and potentially rule him out of the dugout for the clash at Liverpool later this month.
It’s a testament to the manager’s defiance, backed by the club’s resources, that they’ve fought this all the way and have been vindicated in the outcome.

Nice of The FA to confirm they believe Arteta should be treated differently to other managers. https://t.co/CaTkqj8v3H

The FA vs Mikel Arteta written reasons are staggering:
“The FA contended that MA’s status was relevant to the substance of the charge. Words spoken by someone like MA would breach FA rule E3, even though a lower profile manager using the same words or conduct may not.”
