Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta had a storied playing career across a number of leagues and when asked to construct a team from his former teammates, it was bound to be some XI.

Starting from his time in the Barcelona academy to loan spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Rangers, Arteta has experienced a number of leagues and cultures which stood him in good stead.

Interestingly, even when being asked to name a fantasy XI, Arteta’s managerial instincts kick in and the Spaniard lined up with a 4-3-3 system – and even made sure to include a left-footed central defender.

Also, only one former Arsenal makes the cut from Arteta’s playing time at the club – and it’s not one who we no longer mention around these parts!
