Mikel Arteta has responded to recent comments made by Albert Sambi Lokonga…

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has challenged Albert Sambi Lokonga to do his talking on the pitch after the Belgian international expressed his frustrations at a lack of playing time.

Speaking to the press ahead of our Europa League clash against PSV on Thursday as we look to cement the top spot in the group, Arteta issued a challenge to the midfielder.

Lokonga recently spoke on having conversations with his entourage as to whether leaving Arsenal may have been best for his career last summer, but he was convinced to stay.

With the return to European football this term, the former Anderlecht star has seen more football, although his performances haven’t always reassured fans.

For Arteta, he’s urged the 23-year-old to focus on what he can deliver on the pitch to stop the Gunners boss from looking elsewhere.

“Play them and then let them speak on the pitch. The best way,” Arteta said when asked how to keep frustrated players happy.

Regarding Lokonga’s recent performances, Arteta said: “We’ll see more, and he has to prove that what he’s asking for he can produce on the pitch.

“We’re looking for every single player to raise their level and get the right competition in the team, and when you play and perform in a way that we win and play well enough to win games.”

Lokonga hasn’t necessarily covered himself in glory when he’s played this season with the manager using him to deputise for Thomas Partey.

His presence out of possession needs a lot of work and one wonders if a Nuno Tavares-style loan would suit the midfielder.
