Mikel Arteta is grateful for the club’s backing…

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is grateful for the backing he received from the club after a statement was released to echo his sentiments following Saturday’s defeat to Newcastle United, the Spaniard told the press.

Speaking ahead of the game against Sevilla, Anthony Gordon’s winner is still the topic of conversation after Arteta labelled the decision to award the goal a “disgrace”.

There were three infringements checked for the goal, though VAR claimed that it couldn’t find any conclusive evidence to suggest an on-field review due to limitations of camera angles, and therefore went with the referee’s initial decision.

Arteta stated that it wasn’t good enough for a league that professes to be the ‘best in the world’ to not have the equipment available to properly view an incident.

Arsenal subsequently released a statement calling out the PGMOL, and reports suggest that the decision at St James’s Park was just the latest issue in an ongoing problem the club has with how we’re officiated (via the Daily Mail).

“It was great from my point of view, I didn’t expect it,” the 41-year-old said.

“I said it’s my duty to stand in front of you guys and give what I think and then the club has got many options, and they decided to do that one. I really appreciate it.

“I think the players did, everybody at the club did. It showed again that we are one and ready for anything that comes across to fight it in the best possible way.”

The “fight” may not be over with the FA reportedly contacting the club and Arteta for ‘observations’ following the comments they made.

I suspect Arsenal will now provide a dossier of grievances regarding the way we’re officiated with a number of calls set to be brought into sharp focus.

Something tells me we haven’t heard the end of this yet…
