‘No Intention For This To Be Arsene Wenger’s Last Contract’ – Report

Arsene Wenger could be here beyond 2019…
Arsene Wenger announced on Wednesday that he’s agreed to a two-year extension to his current contract to end all speculation about his future.
Talk has been rife all season as to whether the boss would stay or go; an uncertainty he admits had a negative effect on the team during the campaign which led to our capitulation.
After a 21-game unbeaten run in all competitions, back-to-back defeats in December to Everton and Manchester City put us on a downward spiral, and we never really recovered.
It led to a huge number of fans calling for Wenger to walk, with weekly protests against the manager being held at the Emirates Stadium.
However, the board have sided with Wenger and backed his call to make the “unpopular” decision and give him another chance to take us back to the top of English football.
With this current deal taking Wenger to 2019 when he’ll be 69, BBC Sport’s David Ornstein said there’s “no specific desire” from the club or the boss to make this his last deal.
While that’s an interesting statement to make at this time, results on the pitch will certainly determine that or if Wenger even makes it to the end of his contract.
The Arsenal board have talked the talk, it’s time for them to walk the walk.
