Olivier Giroud looking to give Wenger a selection headache…
Olivier Giroud is certainly keen to dismiss the notion that he’s merely an impact substitute after the Frenchman came on to win us the game against Leicester City.
In what was an enthralling night at the Emirates Stadium, Arsene Wenger sent on Aaron Ramsey and Giroud to rescue the points and the duo delivered.
The former Premier League champions put themselves in a commanding position and looked dangerous on the counter attack with Jamie Vardy on form.
However, they certainly appeared suspect at the back and it genuinely looked like we could score every time we went forward.
After Ramsey smashed home the equaliser to make it 3-3 from a wonderful Granit Xhaka pass, Giroud headed home the winner from the Swiss midfielder’s corner.
Asked if he’s enjoying the role of super sub, the 30-year-old was rather dismissive.
“Well that’s a nice stat, but obviously I prefer to be on the pitch,” Giroud told Sky Sports after the game.
“As much as I can I try to help the team to reach our target and tonight we needed this win because everybody knows that the first game is crucial.
“I’m very pleased for the team tonight and hopefully we can carry on.”
Giroud showed why it’s imperative he remains in the squad after the window shuts, something Arsene Wenger confirmed to Sky Sports after the game.
Check out Giroud and Cech’s post-match take on the game in the video above.
