Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had to explain how he ended up ‘liking’ a ‘Wenger Out’ post on Twitter after our defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
Emotions were high on social media following yet another defeat at Stamford Bridge and one which effectively ends our title hopes for yet another season.
Following our shock defeat to Watford last week, we really couldn’t afford not to take all three points in west London against the league leaders.
As ever following a defeat in a big game, the calls for Wenger to step down were rife from fans with the boss’ contract expiring in the summer.
“The title of the tweet I accidentally liked wasn’t ideal but we’ve sorted it out,” The Ox explained to Sky Sports.
“I spoke to the manager about it and explained the accident. I might not go on Twitter again too soon after games.
“He didn’t have a clue what I was talking about. He just heard the word accident and we moved on.”
The 23-year-old did state that even if he held those views, expressing them in that manner is tasteless and would be completely out of character.
What it does display, however, is how quick players are to gauge the reaction from a match on social media, and even look to ArsenalFanTV for that sort of assessment.
