Petr Cech reveals his ambitious goals at Arsenal…
Petr Cech is the latest player to go in depth with Arsenal Player in an episode of ‘Close Up’, and the goalkeeper has laid out his ambitions at Arsenal.
Cech is a unique situation in terms of how fans often question his hunger given that the 35-year-old has won everything available to him in club football and joined us under special circumstances.
Jose Mourinho chose Thibaut Courtois ahead of him for the 2014/15 season, and Cech made a deal with Roman Abramovich that he could join the team of his choice if he stayed for a season.
Cech subsequently chose to join us, with his desire to stay in London for family reasons highlighted as one of the main reasons.
However, for the Czech icon, he’s hungry to repeat his Chelsea success at Arsenal and wants to add a title and a European Cup to his trophy cabinet in north London.
“My initial dream, which I still have, and this is what I train for and I work every day for, is to win the league with Arsenal,” Cech told Arsenal Player.
“To have that trophy again with this club.
“We managed to win the FA Cup so one part is done.
“I hope by the time I finish with my career, all the trophies I have won with Chelsea I’ll have with Arsenal.”
Those are some ambitious, if not unrealistic, words from Cech. We’re currently not even in the Champions League, so competing for it isn’t in our immediate plans.
With his contract up in 2019, Cech is running out of time.
