Mikel Arteta will reportedly be handed funds to strengthen by Kroenke…

Arsenal’s hierarchy are reportedly set to back Mikel Arteta further in the January window as the club looks to capitalise on our sensational start to the season, The Sun’s Mark Irwin reports.

The report claims the boss wants to add ‘at least’ two new players to bolster the squad and will be handed a budget of around £50m to do so.

After guiding us back to European football, albeit not the Champions League, the Kroenkes continued their investment in the Arsenal project to the tune of around £150million.

Arteta strengthened the first XI with the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, while the gifted William Saliba returned from his various loan spells.

Fabio Vieira was also brought in to supplement the squad in many different areas.

Having said that, the departures in the summer meant that towards the end of the window it became abundantly clear that the squad was light in a few key areas that could be exposed by a few injuries.

That quickly became a reality after Mo Elneny suffered a long-term injury, and Emile Smith Rowe’s groin problem has since required an operation.

Those injuries, coupled with the brutal schedule, is currently stretching Arteta’s resources rather thin.

With just a handful of games left in all competitions before the World Cup break, the boss should have enough to maintain our position until then.

Though, upon the resumption of club football, the January window will open it’s imperative the mistakes of the last winter window are not repeated.
