Rio Ferdinand desperate for Arsenal to win the league…
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has pleaded with Arsenal to go on and win the Premier League after his former side held Liverpool to a stalemate at Old Trafford, he told United View.
The thrilling 2-2 draw saw us leapfrog Jurgen Klopp’s men to the table’s summit on goal difference, leaving our fate in our own hands with seven games left to play.
Liverpool’s profligacy came back to haunt them in the end, with Man United scoring their two goals from long-range effort as the Reds’ record against the ‘Big Six’ continues to be their achilles heel.
The Merseyside club have only beaten one of the league’s traditional big clubs – a 4-1 victory at Anfield against Chelsea in January.
Now, having caused them to surrender top spot to Mikel Arteta’s men after we produced a stunning display at Brighton, Ferdinand hopes the Gunners can cross the finish line.
“Please, please, please don’t make me have to laugh at Arsenal at the end of the season, I want to be saying ‘well done to Arsenal,'” Ferdinand said.
“I don’t want the other two to win it. Good luck!”
With just a point separating all three sides in the table, the margin for error is incredibly thin as Arteta looks to end our 20-year Premier League drought.
While it may seem cliché, you can only take each game as it comes and maximise our chances to win – which begins against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
The team have already proven they can handle a European knockout game sandwiched between league games in the last-16 round.
